Obituary

MR ALFBED SMITH, FEILDING The death occurred at tho Palmerston North Hospital on Friday of Alfred, youngest sou of Mr and Mrs J. Smith, of Camden street, Feiiding, at the age of 37 years. The lato Mr Smith was well known and respoeted in Feiiding, having been a pupil of Manchester Street school, the old District High School, and the former Technical School. A good Rugby player, the late Mr Smith was a member of several local teams and also took an interest in band music. He joined-the New Zealand Bailways and remained in the service continuously except for tho period he served abroad with the N.Z.E.F.

A short while ago Mr Smith, who was stationed at Milson, became seriously ill, necesitating his removal to the Palmerston North Hospital.- He failed to rally and his death occurred on Friday.

Of a genuine and likeable nature, Mr Smith’s early demise will be deeply regretted and much sympathy will go out to the bereaved parents and relatives. In addition to his wife, Mr Smith leaves two sisters, Mesdames If. Moore, Camden street, I’eilding, and L. Compton, Auckland; and three brothers, Messrs Geo. Smith (Feilding), Thomas (Palmerston North), and William (Wellington). All returned soldiers of Feilding and district are invited to attend the funeral, which will take place this afternoon at the Feilding cemetery.
