The president of the Grafton Chamber of Commerce, Mr. R. Braithwaite, recommended his colleagues to endorse a proposal in favour of bringing a million German colonists to Australia to help in its development as “Germans had comprised the most industrious settlers in the past,” Mr. Braithwaite urged that proper provision should first be made fee the sons of Australian settlers, after which Germans should be encouraged to migrate and °ettlc on the land. The proposal was approved and remitted to the authorities in Sydney.
