A bequest of £3,000 to the Royal College of Music was made by Dame Clara Butt, the famous singer, of Prospect House, North Stoke, who died in January last, aged 62.
She directed that the income should be used for making an annual grant to the most successful and deserving male or female vocal student of tho college who' shall previously have won a scholarship at the college, to assist him or her in- starting a career, this bequejfi to be known- as the Clara Butt Fund.
Other legacies by Pame Clara, whose estate is valued at £39,517, including: £3,000 to her daughter, Joy Clara Cross; £2OO and a brooch given to her by Queen Victoria, to her friend, Marion Squire; £3OO each to her friends, Mona Wade and Mrs Hedley Ham; £IOO each to her friends, Edith'Adams, Julia Simpson, Alice Jenkins, and Bertha Rossow; £IOO and a diamond and sapphire ring to her friend, Constance Collier. Tho buly of the residue passes to Pame Clara's husbamp, Mr. It. H, Kenucrly Itumford.
