From Our Owu Correspondent. Women’s Institute. Tho Ohakeu \vumen s institute picnic was held at Tangnnoana ueach recently. The weather was ideal ana a large crowd was well catered lor and spent a happy day. ! hollowing lunch the party udjourned to the ocean beach where a sports programme was held. The race results were as follows: a year o;ds, aeun Koberstein 1, Bob Henderson 2; Syrs, fciliirlcy yadler 1, borraine Henderson 2, Stella Tremaine 3, Betty Matthews 2; girls, loyrs, borna Sadler J, Audrey Capstiolc 2; boys, luyrs, Peter Matthews 1, David Matthews 2; young ladies’ race, Miss P. Capstick 1, Miss E. Miller 2; young married. ladies' race, Mrs d. Capstuilc r, Mrs b. f-Coberstein 2; ladies’ race, Mrs Natzke 1, Mrs FreclUington 2; men’s race, Mr D. Capstick 1, Mr J. Capstick 2; relay race, Miss E. Miller and Mr A. V. Matthews. The Ohakea Hull was well filled for the social and dance organised by the Women's Institute oil Friday night. The evening was spent at cards and dancing, the dance numbers being interspersed by ejo.vable musical and elocutionary items. Those contributing to the programme were: Misses Frances and Mysie Anderson, piano duets; Mrs budding, recitations; Miss Joy Ellery, recitation; . .Miss Nellie Masters, songs. The spot waltz was won by Miss E. Miller and Mr G. Freoklington and the Monte Carlo by Miss M. Teague and Mr S. Murray. Those winning most games at cards were Mrs Dickson and Mr D. Capstick. the runnersup being Mrs Natzke and Mr W. Robinson. Music for dancing was supplied by Mr and Mrs Butler. The drama circle of the Institute presented a play, "Aunt blzzie’s Friend,” which was well acted, all Hie members of the cast acquitting themselves admirably. Tlie players were as follows: Miss E. Mullin, Miss P. Capstick, Miss I. Matthews, Miss M. Murray, Miss N. Ellery, Miss M. Ellery. Mrs W. Robinson, Mrs Ayres. . Personal. Mr and Mrs H. Iledpath and Miss Nathalie Capstick have . returned from holidaying in Auckland. The friends of Miss Eiva Pedersen will be pleased to learn she is making steady progress from her operation in private hospital in Palmerston North last week. Mr G. Richardson of Hamilton is residing in the district prior to his marriage to Miss Esme Si#ipson, which takes place shortly. Mr R. Matthews is spending his annual leave with his parents, Mr and Mrs A. V. Matthews. Mr and Mrs J. Ellery returned home this week from a motoring tour of the Taranaki and Auckland districts. Mrs Murray and Miss Jean .Murray have returned home following a twelve months’ holiday spent in Scotland.
