Doctors Protest to Hospital Board
ALLEGATIONS OF NO CONFiDisnvjs REFUTED. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, Last Night. A protest against several of the statements made at a meeting of the Board ou February 27, a statement that it was not true that any major surgery was performed by house surgeons, without supervision, and tho opinion that a remark that patients had been mauled about by boys, was unjustified aud must bring the whole hospital into disrepute, were made in a letter received from the resident medical staff of Wellington public hospital by the chairman and considered by the board at a special meeting to-night. ‘‘As already several of our number have noticed a change iu the attitude of sonic patients in professional matters, wo ivould appreciate an indication as to whether tho board has or has not confidence in the residential staff,” tho letter stated.
Tho board carried a motion assuring tho resident medical staff that no reflection had been cast by the board on their services and expressing the fullest confidence iu their professional work. Tho chairman, Air F. Castle, said ho did uot suggest that the board a s a whole had made auy reflection on tho capabilities of the staff in any way. If by inference tho resident staff had understood statements or inferences made to be supported by the board, then in his opinion they were quite wrong.
