A pathetic result of the prevalent war talk has been the suicide of a Aions veteran, Charles Pearce, whoso leg was amputated as the result o' war wounds in 1916. He kept a small store iu London. The inoccupation of tho Rhineland distressed him, an‘d ho hung, hi nisei 1, leaving a note stating: “I can’t bear the pain of another war.” His wife stated that the war talk had upset him and he felt that all the sufferings of himself and others had been in vain.
