Driver Killed When Train Strikes Truck
FATAL ACCIDENT NEAR HUNTLY Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, Last Night. Fatal injuries were suffered by Joseph H. Aualow, single, aged 24, when the truck he was driving collided with the south-bound Wellington express at Ohiucwai railway crossing shortly after 5 o’clock this afternoon. Ansloiv had been collecting goods from the railway goods shed at Ohiucwai and followed the narrow track from the 'station which rims parallel to the line to meet tho main road. When he turned to cross the line tlic engine of the express struck the truck -with a heavy impact, the driver apparently not noticing that tho train was behind him. The dead man received severe head injuries and death was instantaneous. The truck was wrecked. Slight damage was caused the engine and the train was delayed for about 50 minutes. The signalling apparatus at the station was also affected. Anslow arrived iu New Zealand seven years ago and has no relative in tho country. The body was taken to Huntlv, whero an inquest will be opened.
