Manawatu Philatelic Society
PAST YEAR’S ACTIVITIES Good progress and bright prospects for futuro activities arc recorded in the report to be presented at the annual meeting of the Manawatu Philatelic Society. The report reads as follows: — ‘ Membership.—Wo arc very pleased to report that ' the membership has been increased by 31 since tho last annual meeting. The total membership now stands at 70, and we have prospects for a further increaso in the coming year. Meetings.—The society has met regularly on the third Wednesday of each month, and the attendances have been very satisfactory. The average attendance for tho 10 months lias been 15, as against 1 in previous years. VVe find it now necessary to engage more commodious premises for our meetings, and as there are 50 town members, we would request a much larger attendance at the meetings. At each meeting we have been able to arrange a regular series of talks on “Philately” and displays of collections by members. The P. and T. Department has also kindly lent us a display of the proofs, etc., of tho current stamps. Circuits. —During the course of the year, 11 circuits have been completed, the total value of books being £lO5 19s. Sales from these have amounted to £25 3s sd, and the commission account has benefited to tho extent ot £2 10s Cd. There are four books at present on circuit. General.—Over the last three meetings an early meeting has been held for the benefit of learners, starting at 7 o’clock. Talks have been given on various -ways of starting a collection, and will be continued in the future. The society members had a stamp exhibit at last year’s Winter Show, which helped to arouso interest in tho hobby. Arrangements arc now in hand to hold another exhibition, on a much Mrger scale, at the forthcoming Winter Show 7 in June. Prizes are being awarded for entries and details will be circularised to members at a later date. We wish to draw the attention of all members to tho fact that the exchange superintendent, Mr P. Ornberg, requires a continuous supply of exchange sheets. Even one or two from every member will help greatly.
