In the final of the handicap doubles F. L. Hartnell and Mrs. McLean (New Plymouth) beat Mrs. Colquhouu and Miss Tennent (Palmerston North). Of this match the Taranaki Daily News states: —F. L. Hartnell (-1) and Mrs. McLean (-11), New Plymouth, 26 v. Miss Tennent (-!') mid Mrs. Colquhoun (4.1), Palmerston North, 20. As usual with handicap doubles, little break play was witnessed, the more experienced tactics of Hartnell helping considerably at all stages. Ou four occasions he peeled his partner’s ball and made the execution of her strokes as simple as possible. Mrs. McLean, wno is-an 11 bisque player, has been piaytng well throughout the tourney and has undoubtedly earned a reduction in handicap. Both the PalmerstomjNorlk players were not playing.'asfwell as usual, although at'one'stanfe'o’f the game they established a lead" and it was not until the final stages that Hartnell and his partner, with the aid of a bisque, secured an advantage and finished a hardfought game.
