HIGH SCHOOL LEAD WANGANUI V technical, .. : t

RABONE’S 02 WAS FEATUBE , OF DAY,-

The annual .two-day match between Palmerston North Boys’ High School and Wanganui Technical College was commenced' yosterday on the High School grounds, tho weather being line and the wicket in good order. Batting first the visitors wore dismissed for tho comparatively small score of 90 and tho falling of - Palmerston’s last, wicket a little before 6 o’clock was tho signal for drawing stumps. High School’s first innings’ total was 260—164 runs ahead—and the big feature of, the side’s solid batting display, was a splendid knock by the very youthful Rabono, who practically threw his wicket away when within easy reach of his century. With only two more wickets to fall, however, Rabono had to go for tho runs. , It was a great innings because tho bowling never really lost its accuracy, and Eabone hit no less than 11 fours.

Wanganui Technical batted lirst and although their opening men shaped well onough to suggest they would got plonty of runs, Anderson, Downes and Rabono kept amongst the wickets and tho innings closed at 96. Then- Palmerston proved that they could make runs on their own ground. Gatley and Anuear put 61 runs on for the first wicket and Annoar and Rabono 28 for tho fourth. Later Golf, another promising bat, joined Rabono and the pair rattled tho total up to 213 before a separation was effected. Eabone was first to go after a splendid knock and he hit ono glorious straight drive for six. Sutton was in eighth wicket and ho startod with a six over the fence and over Fcatherston stroct. When Sutton had gone, Rabono speeded up and just failed to reach tho coveted century. Grant (8 for 92) bowled exceptionally well for Wanganui.
