Tho seamen have decided not to recognise Mr Johnson, Federal Secretary of the Union. When Messrs Johnson and Casey (tho Queensland secretary) attempted to enter tho Trades hall today to attend tho conference called by tho A.C.T.U., they encountered a large picket of seamen who jeered and abused them and • forcibly prevented their entering the building. Tho conference decided that neither Keenan nor Johnson should be recognised as general -secretary until the general president (Mr Clarke) gave his ruling. It also decided not to admit Johnson to futlier conferences of tho unions.
Clarke, who did not attend the conference, said Keenan was not elected according to the rules.
