PLAIN-HEADED DAIRY COWS
A dairy man has noticed a growing tendency on the part of breeders of ■'edigreo Jerseys to neglect the head. To deplores this, as he considers an at' tractive head one of tho most pleasing natures of the Channel Island cattle. There is no doubt that the old type of head with a dished face was much more pleasing than the present-day head with a longer and straighter face. •Jersey breeders on the island, who set the fashion, have concentrated on the milk vessel more than on the head during recent years, with tho result that the Jersey is losing much of its former beauty. While it is only natural that they should give first consideration to udder development, as it is the "business end” of a cow that produces the profit, they appear to bo neglecting the Lead to somo extent, and, as a consequence, many Jerseys are plain-headed. This applies in a measure to Australian breeders also, but. nevertheless, there are many Jerseys in that country with head* that have not lost their appeal.
