English Children Sent to Manitoba To Live on Farms
A plan of immigration, new to Canada, has been initiated with the arrival recently of the first party of children to come from Great Britain to enter ilic new Pairbriugo Farm [school on Vancouver Island, m British Columbia. It is proposed to give these children a preliminary training in farm life while young in the country in which .hey are to settle. The average of those young immigrants is about id years. After about five years on tfio farm school, they will work with farmers. The boys will learn farming and the girls housework. The children chosen for the school are from the ranks o! tlio underprivileged, and great care has oeen exercised to pick only those who possess the qualities of success. The first Fuiruridge Farm tiefiool was started in Western Australia l'J years ago, aud lias been very successful. 01 ifie 1000 children sent out, only six had ueen returned as failures. Last year there were still 300 boys aud girls on the Australian farm, and 71)0 had gone to work after they had completed theii training. The Australian farmers were eager to employ them, it was stated. •
