From Our Own Correspondent. ■ The annual meeting- of the -Women’s Institute was held on Tuesday afternoon and was well attended. Tho first half of the afternoon was devoted to business. The election of officers for tho ensuing year resulted:—President, Mrs. H. Caverhill; vice-presidents, Mesdames Clover (senr.), and R. Scott; secretary, Mrs. G. Hunt (subect to consent); treasurer, Mrs. N. Morcom; .committee, Mesdames Bower, Daftor, Jeffs, Misses B. Aaird, E. Knight and M. Will. The retiring president, Mrs. R. Scott, was presented with a supper set rforn members. The annual picnic is to bn held on Thursday, March 14 at Mr. Thompson’s property at the Oroua river and members who have no way of going aro asked to meet in tho Square at 10.30 a.m. Business over, items were given by Mrs. Daftor and Miss Phyllis Hill. The result of tho competition for two jars of preserved fruit was as follows:—Seniors, Mrs. R. Scott 1, Mrs. C. Dawson 2, Mrs. Bower 3; juniors, Miss Hobbs 1, .Miss D. Rowe 2, Miss M. Hunt 3, while tho points prizes went to Mrs. C. Davison and Miss l-lobbs with Mrs. H. Scott and Miss M. Hunt runners up. For next month’s competition, members are asked to bring along their old hats, which have to be displayed and identified. Mesdames Aird and Burgess were appointed to tho stall for the next six months. There was a large attendance on Mon-, day evening at the re-opening of tho hoys’ gymnasium club. Mr. D. Duker, who for the past six weeks has been an inmate of the Palmerston North hospital, has returned home. Mrs. Ronald Aird is spending a few days in Marton.
