Chief Marionette Wins Rangitikei Cup

Might’s Finishing Run Was Just Too Late

Bailey Memorial To Rulanut

Double To Dick Whittington

The Rangitikei Racing Club was favoured with a fine day for their autumn meeting yesterday and the attendance was so large that race hooijs were at a premium well before the first race. The course was in good order and the racing was intere sting. The Rangitikei Cup was won by Mrs. G. M. Bennett’s Chief Marionette, who defeated the fast-finishing favourite, Might, by half a length. In the Bailey Memorial the dividends were returned by Rulanut and Ss h^The*totaUsator handled £6554 10s as compared with £4365 10s for the corresponding meeting last year, the increase being £2189. Detailed results are as under:—

Leprechaun AVins Well.

There were 13 starters in the Trial Plate, Bazaine being preferred to Leprechaun. Chief Lady, Bazaine and Tudor delayed the start for some minutes and when the tapes were released Hunting Scene was in charge from Bazaine, Leprechaun, Merlyn, Miss Pango, Tudor and Chief Lady. Hunting Scene drifted a bit and at the three furlongs Bazaine was setting the pace closely attended by Leprechaun, Merlyn and Hunting Scene, with Chief Lady handy. There was not much change crossing the top and Leprechaun turned for home just ahead of Bazaine, with Chief Lady and Hunting Scene handy, then Tudor, Merlyn, Miss Pango and Kaola. Leprechaun soon put the issue beyond doubt and he won, nicely by a couple of lengths from Hunting Scene who finished well to beat Chief Lady for second place, the margin between them being a length. Bazaine was close up fourth and then came Kaola, Tudor, Merlyn, Terry and Miss Pango. Bold Jim AVas Too Good. Though he tailed the field for most of the journey, Bold Jim was much too good for the others over the final bit and ho won the Highweight by a good length from Bacchus Marsh, who was also well back when heads were turned for home. The early order following a good start, was Eka Tere from Royal Record, Or-.ki, Headland, Lady’s Mile and Bacchus Marsh. Royal Record went into the lead rounding the turn but otherwise the order was the same into the back. At the half mile Royal Record and Eka Tere were three lengths ahead of Headland and Bwid Jim was still whipper in. Royal Record and Eka Tere were first to turn for home with Tranquillity two lengths away followed by Headland, Lady’s Mile, Bold Jim and Bacchus Marsh. Bold Jim was now making up his ground and he soon collared the leaders, going on to win by just over a length. There was a good race for second and Bacchus Marsh finished fast to beat Royal Record by a head "with Eka Tere only half a head further, away. Tranquillity and Headland were next.

Chief Marionette Beats Might. Chief Alarionctto won me Kangitikci Cup but only by half a length from Alight, who finished brilliantly. Might was last into the straight and had just too much ground to make up or' he would have been much harder to beat. Aiguille and Eminent set the pace early, leading out of the straight followed by Chief Marionette, Alidian, Cadland and Might. Cadland moved forward on the outer rounding the turn 'and' he followed Aiguille into the back. At the six Cadland had charge from Aiguille, then came Eminent and Alidian. The field was well bunched at the far turn, Chief Marionette having run up alongside Midian ahead of Eminent. The order was unchanged to the straight but as soon as heads were turned for home Chief Alarionctto challenged Cadland who was under tho whip. Chief Alarionette was going too well, however, and she went on to win by half a length from Alight, who came with a very fast run to get within the length of the winner. Eminent was third just over a length back and Alidian was fourth followed by Cadland. *

Darecourt Beats Sweet Alusic. Bonnie Vale was favourite for the Greatford Hack but she was beaten into fourth place, the dividends being returned by Darecourt and Sweet Music. Sweet Alusic and Timorous led out of the straight followed by Koreroa, Bonnie Vale, Darecourt and Hunting Queen. Timorous had charge from Koreroa and Sweet Alusic going into the back and the field was well bunched at the far turn. Crossing the top Timorous, Darecourt and Koreroa were almost iu line just ahead of Sweet Alusic and Bonnie Yale *and Hunting Queen was in close attendance. Darecourt had a slight lead from Timorous, Bonnie Vale and Sweet Music at the homo turn and in a good finish Darecourt did best, winning by a length and a-half from Sweet Music with Hunting Queen the best part of a length further away. Bonnie Vale was fourth and Timorous next. Rulanut Proves His Worth. Kulanut, who was having his first

race since his return from Australia, was at a good price in the Bailey Memorial. Ho was in a good position early and one of the leaders into the straight. Then ho took command and won nicely by a length and a-half from Sanguine King. Korokio was first to break the line and when tho field had settled down Royal Routine was setting tho pace followed by Hunting Lodge, Korokio and Rulanut, Sanguine King and AVasteland. Rulanut improved going down tho back and he followed Royal Routine across tho top. Rulanut and Royal Routine wero on terms entering the straight with Korokio next uhead of Sanguine King and AVasteland, then Land Tax. Royal Routine did not go on with it and Rulanut took tho lead, winning well by a length and a-half from Sanguine King with Land Tax a neck further away third. Royal Routine was fourth and AVasteland and Korokio were in line with Royal Routine. Double to Dick Whittington. Dick AVhittington started a second time, in the Farewell Hack, and despite a 101 b. rekandicup he again led the field home, winning decisively by a length and a-half from AVahine Nui. The early order was AVahine Nui, from Debut, Dick AA’hittingtou, Dollar Bill, Lifeguard and Abbey Fealc. There was little alteration crossing tho top and Dick Whittington moved forward at the home turn to lead into the straight followed by AVahino Nui, Debut, Dollar Bill, Lifeguard and Abbey Feale. Dick Whittington had the race won at the distance and ho was a length and ahalf to the good at the post. Wahine Nui hung on well for second place half a length ahead of Abbey Feale. Dollar Bill was fourth then Life Guard, Dialogist and Debut.

ON PARADE CASE TRAINER AND JOCKEY APPEAL G. Holland, trainer of On Parade, and J. P. Fergus, the jockey, who were disqualified for six months by the judicial committee of the Franklin Racing Club in connection with the running of that horse in the Onewhero Hack,Cup on Saturday, have appealed to tho Auckland District Committee, and the appeal will be heard at a special meeting next Tuesday. The rule of racing under which trainer G. Holland, jockey J. P. Fergus, and tho horse, On Parade, wero dealt with by the judicial stewards at the Frank-lin-Bay of Islands meeting on Saturday, reads as follows: “Every horse which runs in a race shall be run on its merits, and every rider shall ride his horse out to the end of the race, if he has any reasonable chance of running first, second, third or fourth, and shall in no case trust to tho chance of a protest or objection. Where, in the opinion of tho stewards, any horse has not been run on its merits, they may fine, disqualify or suspend the rider, and may also disqualify the horse for the race, and also (if they think fit) for a spcci-' fied period, and may also fine, disqualify or suspend any licenced person other than the rider, and fine or disqualify any.,other person (including the owner) who in their opinion, was party to the horse not being run on its merits. CHOPIN RETIRED

A Hawke’s Bay message states that honest Chopin has quit the game and will pass the remainder of his days on the property of his owner, Afr W. J. Wood, of Waipawa, who bred him. He was sired by Lord Quex from Tuneful, who some time ago passed away, her last production being Alinnesinger, by Alcrcian King. Although Air Wood bred several horses from Tuneful, in Irish Alelody, Alinstrel Boy, Sweet Chimes, and raced them, none of them were responsible for the attractive displays registered by their half-brother, who was much travelled and raced.
