Mount Richards Road
From Our Own Correspondent. On Thursday evening their local friends bade au re voir to Air. and Airs. A. T. AVhitehead, of Ngaputahi, who liavo now left the district and taken up their residence in Alasterton. The farewell evening, which took social form, was held at ‘‘lComo," th© homo of Air. F. J. Roberts. The guests of honour were wished a happy and prosperous future by their wide circle of friends.
Recently a party of local sports enthusiasts made another conquest of Maharahara, tho peak which towers on the Rualiine skyline and frowns down on its iess elevated comrades. When the party commenced the ascent, mist hung oyer the mountain top, but this slowly lifted and good views were obtained from the vantage points on tho way up. The party lunched half way up the mountain, collecting their packs on the descent.--- From the summit, there unfolded a marvellous panoramic view of Hawke’s .Bay, the ranges around and below, and, Ruapehu and its surrounding mountains, .Though tho western horizon was slightly,.. hazy, the outline of the sea could be discerned. The party consisted of' Mrs. A; KV Roberts, Misses K. Caldwell, I. Roberts, E. Roberts and B. Blixt, Messrs. W. Dunne, B. Caldwell and J. Stevens. Miss Marjorie Wingate, of "Cairnsmore,” has returned home afetr ,a holiday spent at Karehana Bay, Plimmerton and Wellington. Miss Mae Stevens, of “Mahara, spent a short sojourn in Trentham, 'where she was able to join with the Gtrl-.Guides m the greeting of Lord and. Lady BadenFowell. Mrs. Archer, of Palmerston Aorth, la the guest of Mrs-.-*--Stevens.-- ---
