From Our Own Correspondent. Tennis. A team of Ballance tennis players jour* neyed to Hukanui last Saturday and played a friendly match against a team from the Hukanui club. An interesting series of matches was played, which resulted iu a win for Ballance by 14 sets and 117 games to 10 sets and 104 games. On Saturday, March 9, a team of six ladies and six men from Alakomako, is playing the local twelve at Hukanui, and an enjoyable day is looked forward to if weather permits. Personal. Afrs. Douglas Udy and her small daughter are spending a holiday in Lower Hutt and are tho guests of Aliss Al. Prendergast. At tho Eketahuna Horticultural Show hold last Thursday, a local resident, Airs. N. Goodin, was a successful competitor. The following wero her successful entries: —Asters, champion bloom (special prize), also five firsts; first for French marigolds; second for polyanthus roses, petunias and perennial phlox; third for zinnias, first lor French beans; third for rhubarb and second for eggs. Kakariki School Picnic. Tho residents of Kakariki and many visitors spent a happy day at the annual school picnic held last Friday. The day was beautifully fine and a thoroughly enjoyable time was spent by ail. Races for children and grown-ups wero run and there was great competition in the majority of events. Detailed results were as follow:—Girls’ flat race; V. Webb 1, Grace Webb 2; girls’ flat race: U. Clapperton 1, Al. Dodd 2; girls’ fiat race: N. Harrington 1, V. During the afternoon, a lollie scramble was well patronised, and a treasure hunt in the bush delighted the tiny tots. Afternoon tea then being partaken of, people gradually dispersed to their homes and occupations, many commenting on the success of the picnic. Picnic Dance. The Kakariki school room was taxed to capacity in the evening, the occasion being the annual picnic dance. Dance music was supplied by Air. Clapperton, Miss Connell obliging with an extra. A Alonte Carlo waltz was won by Alaster Dennis AVebb and Airs. F. AVebb. Supper was served, after which dancing continued until midnight.
