From Our Own Correspondent. A pleasant afternoon was spent on Saturday, when a visiting tennis team from tlio Bunnythorpo club played a match against the local club. The games were played on the school court and Mr. J. 11. Bennett’s grass court, a vote of thanks being passed at the conclusion to Mr. and Mrs. Bennett for the use of the court. Tho visitors proved (ho winners after many hardly-contested games. Th© following were the scores, Bunnythorpo players being mentioned lirst:- 31 - Ladies’ singles: Mrs. Williamson beat Miss H. Bennett 6—2; Miss R. Linklater heat Miss T. Lower 6—4; Miss P. Westall lost to Miss J. Bennett o—6; Miss J. Sinclair heat Miss M. Firth G —3. Men’s singles: J. Gore heat J. Sorenson 6 —5; 3. Williamson beat J. Simeon 6—3; R. Mitchell heat A. Te Oka 6—2; H. Godfrey lost to D. Lewer 3—6. Ladies’ doubles: Mrs. Williamson and Miss Linklater beat Misses H. Bennett and L. Lewer 6—5; Misses Westall and Sinclair lost to Misses J. Bennett and Firth 4—6. Men’s doubles: Messrs. Gore and Williamson beat Sorenson and Simeon 6—2; Messrs. Mitchell and Godfrey beat Te Oka and Lewer 6—l. Combined doubles: J. Gore and Mrs. Williamson lost to Sorenson and Miss H. Bennett o—6; Williamson and Miss Linklater beat Simeon and Miss Lewer 6—4; Mitchell and Miss Sinclair lost to T© Oka and Miss Firth 5—G; Godfrey and Miss Westall lost to Lewer and Miss J. Bennett 3—6. Total: Buriny thorpe 10 sets, 75 games: Te Arakura 6 sets, 67 games. Cricket. A friendly cricket match was played on Saturday afternoon in Mr. M. Durie’s paddock, To Arakura being tho hosts for the game, the visitors the Taonui team. Te Arakura proved the winners by one wicket and 13 runs. Taonui. (irst innings: 63 runs. Te Arakura, first innings, 52 runs. Taonui, second innings: 42 for 9 wckts. To Arakura, second innings: 65 for 8 wckts. At tlie conclusion of the afternoon Mr. E. Clevcly thanked their hosts for the enjoyable. afternoon. Mr. C. Avery replied. Tho team representing Te Arakura was: C. Avery (captain), R. Stewart, D. Thomson, .T. aWsley, N. Pedersen, L. Hansen, A. Clifford, L. Gannaway, E. Stephenson and G. Firth. Personal. Miss Marjorie Burnham, who has been in hospital for several weeks, returned homo on Sunday. Miss Ella Bennett, Ongarue, is staying with relatives here. Mrs. F. Lewer left on Friday for Westland to attend tho wedding of her nephew, Mr. Tremewan. Mr. and Mrs. W. Johnston wore visitors to the district last week on their way south. The friends of Mrs. Ryder Stewart will regret to hear that she is ill at her mother’s place in Feilding, and will wish her a speedy recovery.
