Ohakea

From Our Own Correspondent. To celebrate the coming-of-age of their daughter, Frances, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Anderson gave an enjoyable evening at their residence "Hilade.” Suitable decorations were put around the verandahs under which dancing was enjoyed. During the evening items were rendered by Mrs. lv. Bailey and the Misses Anderson. After supper, Miss Anderson cut the beautiful birthday cake (made by her aunt, Mrs. W. E. Pearce) and was the recipient of many congratulations. On behalf of those present, Mr. K, Pearce congratulated Miss Anderson on reaching her majority and conveyed best wishes for'her future happiness. Mr. S. Urr conveyed the th inks of those present to Mr. and Mrs. Anderson for providing such an enjoyable l'unction. Among those present (guests coming from Wanganui, Palmerston North, Bulls, Sanson and Marton), were Miss Anderson's grandmother, Mrs. J. A. Bailey, Mesdames W. Bailey, It. Bailey, R. Mackay, G. McDonell, U. Bailey, B. Henderson, W. E. Pearce, K. Bailey and G. K. Drew, Misses M. Bailey, F. Palmer, J. Summerville (Wanganui), B. Purnell (Marton), B. Pearce, J. Kilpatrick, P. and N. Capstick, X. Matthews, N. Frecklington, hi. and 1. Ellery, N. Masters, R. Dwyer, Messrs. AV. E. Pearce, K. Bailey, B. Henderson, R. Bailey, R. Mackay, G. McDonell, G. Drew, F. Chapman, K. Pearce, J. and T. Palmer, D. Cameron, D. and C. Grace, G. Freckling ton (Palmerston North), A. Frecklington, M. Pearce, G. Wiggins, P. Ellery, S. Orr, K. Coombe, .1. Smith, .f. Frecklington, AV. Drew, C. Guscott, and K. Glen (Wanganui).

In honour of her approaching marriage, Miss L Bailey was tendered an afternoon at tlie residence of her mother, Mrs. J. A. Bailey, by her friends. As a token of the esteem in which she is held, she was the recipient of a handsome dinner service. On Friday evening the friends of AUss h. Bailey gave her an enjoyable kitchen tea at the residence of her mother, Mrs. ,T A. Bailey, in honour of her approaching Carriage. Chinese lanterns transformed the large lawn into a fairyland and on this dancing and competitions were held. During the evening items were rendered by Mrs. K. Bailey and Miss Anderson. Music was supplied by Mrs. Butler's orchestra, whilst Miss It. Frecklington contributed extras. Mr. G. Chester,on, cn behalf of the Feilding Hockey Association, thanked Miss Bailey for the gicat assistance she had given in the conduct of the game, especially in umpiring end wished her the best of luck and happiness in her new home. Miss M. Taylor, on behalf of the Ohakea Ladies’ Hockey Cmb, thanked Miss Bailey for the great interest she had taken in the club, especially as a coach. Iler help would be greatly missed this coming season. She then presented Miss Bailey with a silver entree dish in appreciation of her services. Mr. W. E. Pearce asked Miss Bailey also to accept the many and varied gifts which had been brought along as a token of the esteem in which she is held in the district. Miss Bailey returned her thanks for the remarks made and for the presents given, and assured thoso present that she was sorry to be leaving the district and that all she had done had gii en her the greatest of pleasure. Much regret will be felt that Miss E. Price, assistant at the school, has tendered her resignation in view of her approaching marriage. Since September, 1929, Miss Price has worked hard for the welfare of the pupils at the school, and her influence has been of the best. Arrangements are in hand to suitably recognise the work she has done. The heavy rain which fell in the district on the 21, 22, 23 and 24 of last month, amounted to 5.97 inches. As this was the only fail since New Year’s Day, it was urgently needed. As a result, llio pastures have now recovered and there is a better growth, which has arrested the drop in buttorfat returns so evident prior to this. The friends of Mrs. Slionrock, of Ohakea, will be pleased to learn that she is progressing favourably after her recent operation.
