From Our Own Correspondent. The Church of England Sunday school picnic was held in the domain grounds on Saturday last, there being a good attendee, 0 of children and parents. Miss V. Hill, Sunday school superintendent, assisted by Mrs. W. Hoskins, Mrs. J C box, Miss F. Hoskins and Miss Nancy Hills had arranged an attractive programme of games and races and altogether the day was a happy ono for both grown-ups and children. Afternoon tea was served in the shade of the native bush lrmgmg the domain, after which the prizes were presented by the Vicar, Rev. -H.. a. Goortz. The various races.resulted T? The Methodist Sunday school picnic, which was also hold in the domain grounds on Saturday attracted a large number of children who, with their parents and friends, appeared to thoroughly enjoy every minute of tho outing. Mr. C. U Dunham, S.S. superintendent, with the co-operation and support of Mrs. J. Scarle and Rev. Foston, lcopt both children and adults fully and pleasantly occupied with games, competitions and races. The presentation of the prizes took place while afternoon tea was being served and the opportunity was taken by Mr. Dunham to extend thanks to Mrs. O. Jepsen and Rev. .Foston lor their generous donations of fruit and sweets respectively. A pleas-' mg and thoughtful gesture was the presentation by the S.S. teachers of little gifts to each of .the children ih tho various classes. The races resulted as under:—Tiny tots’ race: girls, Nancy Jepsen 1, Janet Currie 2, Jean Currie 3: boys, Graham Dunham 1, Stan Nicholson 2, Barry Searie 3; boys’ race, John Sumner 1, R. Currie 2, R, Searlo 3; junior girls’ race: Hazel Jepsen 1, Joan liyndman 2; Joan Barclay 3; senior girls’ race: Alice Doreen 1, Marion Dunstall 2, Irene Woodroofo 3; gilds’ three-legged race: Freda Sumner and Alma Dobson 1, Alice Doreen and Marion Dunstall 2, thread-tlie-needlo race: Miss E. Hoskins and W. Hill 3, Alma Dobson and Freda Sumner 2; married ladies’ race: Mrs. J. Searlo 1, Mrs.. H. Woodroofo 2, Mrs. L. Evans 3; special race for members of the Sunday school and Bible class (prizes donated by Mrs. ,T. Searie): M. Dunstall 1, Alice Doreen 2, Irene Woodroofo 2, 11. Jepsen I, IC. Brewer 5. Hall Committee. A meeting of the hall committee was

held on Monday evening, Mr. W. N. Brewer presiding. Also present were Messrs. O. Kerrigan, J. Flowers, Ik Woodroofe, T. Baton and F. A. Dunstall. Tho secretary reported, that the contractor, Mr. G. A. Anderson, had commenced the preliminary work in connection with the erection of the hall and it was anticipated the building would be completed by April 20. Tho financial report disclosed that tho total donations received amounted to £360, subscriptions outstanding being £23. The>purchase of a section adjoining the school grounds had been completed at a cost of £25. Timber for the construction of seats, forms and tables, etc., had been obtained at a cost of £l2, and several local tradesmen were now generously making these articles at no labour cost to tho committee. Mr. W. N. Brewer and Mr. J. Flowers were appointed trustees of tho hall. Rifle Shooting.

Tho Asliliurst Defence Rifle Club commenced tho season’s competition shoots last week, tho (lay being tine with a light, variable front Cnnd. There was a good muster and some very fair scores were returned. The competitions conditions, were 7 shots and two optional sighters at 200 and 300 yards open sights, -and no slings. R. A. Jones headed tho list at botii ranges with 31 and 28 respectively, and also headed tho handicap aggregate with S. J. Brookie. Several of the riflemen who were not shooting In the local competitions, shot with the aperture sight, and under those conditions, S. Mayhew put all his shots in tho bull at 200 yards, and only dropped one. point at the 360 yards performance. There was one lady competitor. The club will fire at 300 and 500 yards aperturo sight next week. Detailed scores as as follow:—R. A. Jones 31, 28, 2A, 614; S. J. Brookie 2S, 26, 71, 611; C. Ralph 24, 22, 144, 604; B. Jones 22, 21, 12, 55. Tho following were not in the competition shoot:—S. Mayhew 35, 84, 69; J. Osborne 32, 29, 61; 11. Barlow 32, 27, 59; J. Griffiths 29, 2S, 57; C. Garrick 21, 24, 45; Mrs. Barber 20, 11, 31.
