From Our Own Correspondent, The School Picnic.

One of the events of the year that is enjoyed by old and young alike took place on Friday last when the annual school picnic was held at Mr. Neil Campbell's bush. The spot is an ideal one for a picnic, the beautiful native bush providing the necessary shade, with an open paddock in front for games etc., while the location is easily- accessible to all. A goodly number attended the picnic though some familiar faces were missed from tho gathering. A good programme of sports and competitions filled up the afternoon, leaving not a dull moment. The school prizes won by scholars for the year’s work were presented and short speeches were given by Mr. J . .T. Borne (chairman of committee), and Mr. C. N. Rabone, who x>resented the prizes. Mr. Hume spoke of tlie good work of Ilia teachers, Miss N. Bailey and Miss M. Carty, of tho help and co-operation of the parents and residents, of tlie generosity of tlie business people in giving trophies and of tho progress made by the school. Cheers were given for Mr. and Mrs. N. Campbell for the use of the grounds, for the teachers, the. residents who supported the picnic, for tlie business people in giving l trophies, and for Mr. and Mrs. C N. Ra.bone. Mr. Rabone, who (assisted by Mrs. Rabone) presented the prizes, apologised for the absence of Mr. W. G. Black (president of the School Committee’s Association), saying it was one of the outings that Mr. Black would really have enjoyed. Cufortunately, lie was in Timaru. Afternoon tea then being partaken of, people gradually dispersed to their homes and occupations, many commenting that the picnic could not have been much better. Free ice cream was provided for the children and sweets were donated, by Mr. Lamerton and Watson Bros.
