From Our Own Correspondent. Continuing tho Wednesday competition Woodville travelled to Norsewood and commenced a game against the Norsewood team on Wednesday last. The first match of the season was played on the local green on Wednesday afternoon when a rink from Dannevirke challenged Woodville for the Gosling stars, a good gamo resulting in Wpodville retaining the trophy by a margin of five points. Mounted Rifle Troop, A well attended meeting was held on Monday evening when Captain Sugden and Sergeant-Major Rodgers, of the Wellington and East Coast Mounted Rifles, addressed those present on tho duties of a troop, including the matters of parades, camps and rates of pay. It was decided to form a troop and 26 men were medically examined and attested and fitted out with uniforms. Parades will bo held every fortnight in the drill hall commencing on the 13th instant. Farming Operations. Favoured by the recent fino spell of weather a largo number of the sheepfarmers in the district have commenced shearing operations. Indications point to an excellent clip and with continued fine weather the district’s clip is likely to be ready for tho market much sooner this year than in former years. Dairymen report continued good supplies and tho factory roturns show an increase in the amount of butterfat being supplied. Personal. Mr. and Mrs. A. M. Pickering and Mr. E. Pickering left Woodville on Thursday on a month’s holiday to Sydney.
