Made Honorary Police Captain

LOS ANGELES HONOURS “SMITHY” United Press Association.—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright. Received Thursday, 7 p.m. LOS ANGELES, Nov. 7. Additional honours were conferred on Sir Charles Kingsford Smith to-day, when he was made an honorary police captain, while he shared the place of honour with Governor Merriam at a breakfast, although the reception was originally intended to celebrate Air. Alerriam’s defeat of Mr. Upton Sinclair for the ’Governorship of California.

Captain P. G. Taylor has arrived in New York. Commenting on his achievement in picking out Suva and Hawaii, he said that no radio aids to navigation were used on the flight, the only radio set in the plans being a transmitting apparatus. He explained that he had accepted a place with an East Indian air-lino and was already overdue at Singapore. He will sail for England on Friday.
