Ashhurst Public Hall
USE OF RESERVE SOUGHT, Permission to utilise the triangle reserve at Ashhurst for the purpose of erecting a public hall was sought of the Oroua County Council at its meeting at Feilding yesterday by the Ashhurst Public Hall Committee. The committee set out the position, of the building fund as follows: —Subscriptions received, £I2S; subscriptions guaranteed, £150; subscriptions promised, £4O; total, £3lB. The estimated cost of the hall is £4OO, leaving a balance of £S2 to be arranged for by the committee. It was stated that the only other suitable site available was priced at £SO, which was beyond the means of the committee.
The chairman (Cr. A. Campbell) said that he had conferred with Cr. E. MacDonald on the question, and there appeared to be no objection to the proposal of the hall committee. The reserve was vacant and available for the purpose suggested and he did not think that the council could object to the erection of a public hall thereon. The council decided to give the matter favourable consideration.
