Tho thief or thieves who on recent Sundays have removed a number of guinea-pigs from cages at the Cook Hospital (Gisborne) possibly secured more than they bargained for .(says an exchange). The guinea-pigs are kept for experimental purposes, and the discovery that their number had been diminished caused a certain amount of concern among tho medical staff, for the animals liavo been inoculated with various diseases, such as tuberculosis, and persons handling them arc liable to contract disease. Apart. from the danger of infection, the removal of the guinea-pigs has occasioned gravo inconvenience to tho hospital authorities, and it is stated that ,the recovery of some of the patients may bo retarded.
