Brighter Outlook for the Dominion

TARIFFS AND INDUSTRY. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, Last Night. Addressing the Manufacturers’ Federation conference to-day Pit. Hon. G. W. Forbes said there was a brighter outlook than for years past and throughout the country a greater feeling of confidence. Ho did not think there was anything conflicting in the interests of the primary industries and those of the secondary industries. What was required was that all should bo run on efficient lines and improve tho quality of their goods. It behoved manufacturers so to conduct their business that they would not require the assistance of tariffs to a degree which could be criticised. The object should be to seek the removal of undesirable tariffs, but no one wanted to reduce tariffs so as to put industries cut of operation. Britain did not desire that, her objection being to uneconomic industries that required unduly high protection. There was ample scope for local industries to do a very large business in the Dominion.
