Y.M.C A Cricketers

REVIEW OF ACTIVITIES In preparation for its annual meeting, tho Y.M.C.A. Cricket Club has prepared the following report on the activities of the past season: —On only two occasions. did the weather conditions render the ground unfit for play, which resulted in an. unusually long playing season. However, on all of the. 24 playing days, the juniors fielded a full team, but we regret that owing to not being able to keep iu touch with the third grade boys, the latter team was short on several occasions. Eight teams took part in the junior division and wo congratulate City Council on their winning performancc.G. Griggs headed the batting with an average of 29.9. The bat presented by Messrs G. H. Bennett, Ltu^,

for the best batting average was therefore won by this player. R. Riley was next with an avorago of 25.9. The leading bowling averages were: W. Dickinson, 5S wicket?, 6.1.: G. Downes, 34 wickets, 0.(3; C. McMinn, 32 wickets, 10.9. Three junior representative fixtures were played against Fcilding, Foxton and the Wednesday representatives. The following represented tho association on one or more occasions: C. McMinn, W. Dickinson, G. Downes, F. Peterson, J. and G. Griggs. Five teams took part in the third grade competition and there, again, only three points separated our team from the Phoenix Club, who were the winners. This was a very fine performance for the newly-formed team. G. Marshall headed the batting TC-turns with an average of 19.7 and Mr T. R. Hodder’s bat, presented for the best average, was won by this player. This member also had tho distinction of scoring a century, a very good effort in third grado cricket, and the only one scored in this grade. F. Collis was nest with an average of 1(3.2. In con-

clusion, we desire to thank especially Mr W. B. Cameron, whoso time and counsel have been at the service of the club since its inception in 1929; also Messrs G. 11. Bennett, Ltd., and Mr T. R, Ilodder for presentation, bats and those supporters of the club who again assisted us with donations.
