Wrestling

VARGA v. PATTERSON OPERA HOUSE TO-MORROW In former seasons the quality of professional wrestlers offering was not enticing enough to put on more than about three or four matches during the season, but with such galaxy of talented wrestlers in the Dominion at present, tho P.N.W.A. has shown great discrimination in matching their men. The contest between Count Josef Varga, of Hungary, and Jack Patterson, of America, is a match that would be welcomed on any .Stage, and we are to be envied that Palmerston North should be the venue. The Opera House to-morrow night should again prove too small to hold the Wouldbe onlookers and the safest way of making sure of a. good seat is to book at the Central Booking Office and avoid the necessity of leaving home early and the possibility of being amongst the leftovers as on the last occasion that Patterson fought here. Patterson makes the fight and provides the entertainment even though his methods do not meet with universal approval, but with sucli a capable referee as Mr. Alex Anderson, the big chap knows how far he can go and keep onside. ' There is no denying Patterson’s great strength, ability and staying powers and close followers of form are strongly of the opinion that he will defeat Varga, in spite of the good performances put up by the Count against the British champion, George Walker. It is in the latter end of the contests that Patterson makes his run, and this first meeting of Varga and Patterson will settle a question that has been the subject of many arguments in wrestling circles. One thing looks sure, and that the public will see a great contest between two big athletes using different ring tactics. The box plan shows that there are still some seats left In every department, but the best will go to those who visit the Central Booking Office.
