MANAWATU LADIES SCORE BELATED WIN

Three Teams Still Unbeaten at Damievirkc SECTIONAL HONOURS CONSIDERABLY CLARIFIED. Per Press Association DANNEVTRKE, Last Night. The New Zealand ladies 5 hockey tournament was continued on Saturday in glorious sunshine after overnight rain. The grounds wero unaffected and in good order for tho afternoon’s games. Teams still unbeaten are Canterbury, Southland and Otago. Chief interest centred to-day in tho Eastern-Bush match in C section, tho latter being then unbeaten. Eastern fielded a stronger side than on Friday and secured victory by a 3—o margin, re-establishing themselves for sectional honours. In section A Auckland defeated Wairarapa B comfortably by three goals to nil, scoring 2 goals in the first half. Scorers were Misses A. Bisset and M. Rossiter (2). Canterbury romped over Ruahine B, Miss M. McKenzie scoring 7 goals and Misses y. McNab and N. King one each. Southland had a stern fight against Akitio, finally winning by four to three. Southland scored in tho first ten minutes, Miss Bell goaling. Miss P. Borry evened soon after for Akitio, and then . Miss O. Yeoman scored again. Akitio led 2—l. Miss Newcastle evened for Southland and Miss 0. Yeoman placed Akitio in tho lead again, by scoring well before half-time. Southland attacked and livened up in the second half, Miss Robb scoring soon after tho spell started. Miss M. Lee came to light again towards the end, giving Southland a grip on sectional honours. In B section, Feilding had the upper hand over Wanganui practically throughout a somewhat dull game. Scorers for Feilding were Mrs. Grubb, and Misses F. Mclntosh (2) and E. Hill. For Wanganui Miss J. Gurr netted once. Wellington defeated Ashburton in a comparatively oven contest. Tho score was one-all at half-time, and the final scoro 3—l. Scores were gained for Wellington by Misses D. Nash, H. McClelland and I. Pickering. For Ashburton, Miss M. Owens goaled. Wellington displayed the better finish. By defeating Ruahine after a most interesting game, Otago continued its run of successes to place it in a position for sectional honours. Play was very even, with little between the teams, but Otago had a better finish near tho circle. There was no score during a strenuously contested first spell, but Otago wore more aggressive in tho second half. Miss L. Vidal opened their score by rushing in to goal from a scramble. Shortly after the same player with a brilliant shot from the edge of the circle scored again. She was the outstanding player of the match. . In section C, the Msnawatu-Waira-rapa game was uninteresting, and the standard of hockey poor. Miss M. Kearns scored for tho winners. Eastern with its team at full strength redeemed itself by beating Bush 3 nil after a very exciting gamo. The forwards wero very aggressive and combined in some classy movements. There were no weak spots in tho Bush defonce, but they wore unable to score. Eastern’s first scoro came from a penalty at the 25 line, and Miss F. Allen hitting strong to Miss K. Bond, who netted from tho edge of the circle. Just beforo half-time, Miss M. White by brilliant play burst through tho defonce to score again for Eastern. Within five minutes of the opening of the second spell, Eastern scored again, Miss Nicholls centreing from tho right flank for Miss White to dash in and score. From then on, Eastern never looked* liko losing, although Bush played strong hockey. Eastern are now practically assured of sectional honours. The Tarannki-Marlborough match was devoid of outstanding incident, though well contested. Scorers for Taranaki were Mrs. Barron and Miss I. King. Detailed results are:— Section A. Auckland 3, Wairarapa B 0. Southland 4, Akitio 3. Canterbury 9, Ruahine B 1. Section B. Wellington 3, Ashburton 1. Otago 2, Ruahine A 0. Feilding 4, Wanganui 2. Section C. Eastern 3, Bush 0. Manawatu 1, Wairarapa A. 0. Taranaki 2, Marlborough 0. Tho draw for to-day is:— Section A: Canterbury y. Southland, Wairarapa B y. Akitio, Auckland v. Ruahine B. Section B: Ashburton v. Wanganui, Feilding v. Ruahine, Wellington ▼. Otago. Section C: Eastern v. Wairarapa, Marlborough v. Manawatu, Taranaki v. Bush.
