The latest is the.use of dried roots and flowers of certain .plants as inscctides . which can destroy pests which have hitherto baffled scientists. In Peru the roots of the barbaso plant are'being powdered into a spray to eliminate fruit flies, while in Kenya many acres are being devoted to the cultivation of pyrethrums, whose flowers and stalks yield a liquid with an- insect-killing] power three times greater than that of any other known preparation.
