Women Preachers
The Archbishop of Canterbury has brought his own diocese into line with other by approving regulations for the special recognition of women’s work. These now conditions will permit women, not under the age of 25 and possessing special qualifications, to receive tho Archbishop’s license to speak in churches at other times than the regular services. Dr. Lang explains in his Diocesan Gazette, that the object of the regulations “is to regularise the work, to give authority and recognition to these engaged in it, and to bring its methods into line with other diocess which have been foremost in giving it a righful place in church order.’’ Where a woman attains the standard for the Archbishop’s license a guarantee will be offered for an adequate stipend for her services. A woman worker, with tho Archbis'hip’s license to preach, will not be permitted to administer Holy Communion nor conduct any of those services belonging particularly to the clergy. There arc now 24.8 deaconesses in the Churches of England.
