SUSPENSION IMPOSED: ON NEW •ZEALAND BEEF. ■ • LONDON, Aug. 20. Major W. E. Elliot, Minister of Agriculture, speaking 'at a. fete at Hawick, said tho Ministry’s statement of August 12th;.- meant that- there would be a reduction in imports of upwards of 20,000 tons of frozen and chilled beef as ared with the last quarter of 1932. The virtual suspension of the' release of New Zealand frozen beef meant a reduction approaching 8000 tons. A Pretss cable despatched, from London on Augu ' 12th stated: The Ministry of Agriculture has issued a statement detailing tho arrangements made to reduce meat imports for the remainder of the year. Chilled beef figures are being reduced by 10 to 15 per cent, below the Ottawa quantities and frozen beef 20 per cent, for the current and 25 per cent, for the next quarter. New Zealand is sending no frozen beef in the last quarter of the year. Australia has reduced her quantity, compared with 1932. It is believed that the arrangements will improve beef prices. There are also fair prospects of improving mutton and lamb prices, owing to reductions in Australian and New Zealand deliveries.
