MANAWATU UNION HOLDS SPECIAL MEETING A special meeting of the Manawatu Rugby Union was held last evening, Mr. A. W. Thompson presiding. There were also present Messrs. H. Eglinton, C. C. Yates, H. J. Hickey, E. Clevely, H. Bowler, J. E. Hardie, H. Crawford and L. J. Plank. At the outset the chairman explained that the object of calling the special meeting was to record a motion for the Bugby Union to become an incorporated society under the terms of tho Act. The necessary documents were required to be signed by Is l members of tho union and club delegates. Before proceeding with the general business these signatures were sought. Concerning tho proposed date for the Wairarapa v. Manawatu game at Palmerston North on September 2, the Wairarapa Union advised that, owing to the positions of teams in the club championship there, It would be impossible to play on a Saturday. It was suggested that a Wednesday date bo fixed and the return game in Wairarapa would be on a Wednesday.—The secretary reported that September 9 had been confirmed for the match at Palmerston North an September 30 for the return game. Horowhenua Union, in regard to a junior game, submitted Saturday, September 9 as the date for the game to be played at Levin at 2.30 p.m.—This offer for a match was accepted, the team to travel by train. Kia Toa sought permission for its third grade team to play a friendly match with a Masterton club team on Saturday, at Palmerston North.—No. 5 ground, Showgrounds, at 1.30 p.m., was granted.
The Manawatu and West Coast A. and P. Association forwarded copy of a letter received from the Te Kamau Sub-Union relative to the expenses of an injured player in the match Te Kawau v. Oroua. The writer pointed out that as these matches were played under the auspices of the union it was felt that players would bo covered by the insurance risk. The association was not in any position to accept such liabilities.—The chairman said that he could not see how anyone imagined that the union was responsible. It was decided to reply that no assistance could be given as well as pointing out that the Te Kawau players did not come under the union’s insurance scheme and that the obligation fell on Te Kawau.
Application was made for the use of a ground on Wednesday next for a match between FeiJding grocers and drapers.—The ground at Johnston Park was granted. ■Stating that the club was holding its annual dance on- September 6, tho Kia Toa Club extended an invitation to all members of the union. “We are also desirous that an official presentation of the various championship trophies be made at this function and should feel honoured in having the patronage of the union for this purpose,” it was stated.—lt was decided to accept the club's offer with thanks. Fourth Grade Winners Bunnythorpe was declared to be the winners of the fourth grade championship, High School being the runnersup. The chairman pointed out that this was the position of the teams at the termination of the third round. It was resolved to grant the Hockey Association the use of green and white stockings until its own came to hand. Fixtures for Saturday Seniors: Feilding Old Boys v.
