Foxton
From Our Own Correspondent. Basketball. On Wednesday last a team from the local Basketball Club played a return match with the Rahui Club at Otaki. It was an even game throughout, there being only a margin of two goals at the finish, 14—12 in Foxton’s favour. Mrs. M. Ross controlled the game. At the conclusion of play the visitors were entertained at afternoon tea. Local Cyclist’s Success. In the 35-mile road cycle race at Otaki on Saturday J. Preston, the Foxton cyclist, won the event off scratch, and at the same time put up fastest time. The placings were: —J. Preston (scr.) 1, T. Mudgway (9min.) 2, R. Flutey (17 min.) 3. Preston’s time was lhr. 19min. 40sec. Personal. Mr. L. J. Furrie, headmaster of the Stratford District High School, and who lor some years was headmaster of the Foxton school, paid a brief visit to Foxton yesterday. Mr. Furrie, himself a well-known athlete, has always been keenly interested in school sports and is at present in charge of the Taranaki district Rugby school representatives which participated in the schools’ quadrangular tournament which opened at Devin on Saturday. The opening game of the contest which Was between Taranaki and Hutt Valley resulted in a win for the Taranaki ooys by 16 points to nil. The winners’ scores came from two converted tries, a try and a penalty goal.
