. Miss Gaustad, of Palmerston North, is visiting friends in Hastings. Mrs. Bower Knight (Dauncvirko) and her daughters arc visiting Wellington. Mrs. Florcnco Porter, of tho British and Foreign Bible Society, has returned to Wellington from an organising tour in the Manawatu district.' Mr. and Mrs. A. E. K. Joblin and family, of Palmerston North, aro spending tho school vacation at Waipukurau. Tho death occurred at the Palmerston North Hospital on Saturday of Mrs. Ivo McLennan, of Halcombe, following a long illness. Tho late Mrs. McLennan was a member of a higlily-respected family of the Halcombe district and her passing will be sincerely regretted by a wide circle of relations and friends. Tho funeral will take place to-day. Mrs. Eleanor Hughos, the well-known artist (formerly of Christchurch), has been elected a lady momber of the Boyal Institute of Painters in Water Colours. This society is second in age and prestige as a water-colour society only to tho Royal Society of Painters in Water Colours. Mrs. Hughes is probably tho first New Zealander to enter the institute. Although it is 23 years since sho was in New Zealand, her work i 3 still exhibited here. Its characteristics aro distinctive and are much appreciated by art lovers in England. This year again, Mrs. Hughes has two very effective works hung at Burlington House.
