Manawatu Soccer Representatives Defeated

ONE GOAL MARGIN AT WANGANUI On Saturday the Manawatu soccer representatives travelled to Wanganui, where they were defeated by the River City’s elect by one goal to nil. Manawatu were unlucky not to scoro, as they made fully two-thirds of the play. However, they encountered two excellent full backs in the opposing side. A further handicap was the loss of Lyons, tno captain, who sprained an ankle after only live minutes of play. Manawatu’s shooters could hit tho sticks and crossbar, in fact, everywhere except the net itself. Wanganui’i goal was scored by Heath, who alono was outstanding in the homesters’ forward line. McShcffery, at centre forwaru, was one of Manawatu’s best men on the field. The whole team found the hard, fast ground a marked contrast to the North street semi-quagmire. Junior Matches. At North street on Saturday the fourth graders entered on tho first round of the “knock-out” series which is to consist of one complete round to lengthen the playing season somewhat. Results were:—To Awe Awe Oiu Boys 5,v. Rovers 1; St. Paul’s 3 v. Y.M.U.A, 2. In the fifth grade competition, St. ‘Paul’s beat All Saints’ Scouts 1—0; Y.M.C.A. juniors beat Terrace End Scouts 3—2, and Rcchabites beat Central Scouts 4—l. The only sixth grade game was between Terraco End and Convent B, the former winning 2—o.
