ENDEAVOUR TO INCREASE. In the House ol: Commons last month Captain W. F. Strickland inquired what amount had been expended and incurred during the past twelve months on advertising the use of the telephone; whether there was a separate department for such advertising, ar.d, if so, what salary was paid to the head of that department. Sir Kingsley "Wood, in reply, stated that, during the 13 months ended March 5 the Post (Mice had expended approximately £25,000 upon advertising the use of the telephone. There was a separate headquarters section under a Controller of Sales and Publicity, whose salary was on a scale rising to £IOOO per annum (basic).
