ALLEGATION OF “THIRD DEGREE" TREATMENT New York Times Broadcast. NEW YORK, July PJ. ’ A reorganisation of the entire detective bureau of Nassau County, in New York State, was threatened yesterday after an investigation of the death of Hyman Stark, a prisoner who was allegedly beaten to death during a police “third degree" examination. Four policemen were held as material witnesses, and the announcement was made that six additional policemen, including the chief of ‘ the homicide squad, would be suspended as soon as the investigation is completed.
