The work of emptying the Tiritea reservoir of water in order to clear the outlet pipe of the snags and roots which have caused the City Council so much concern is proceeding satisfactorily, though slowly. Yesterday the lowest level yet reached, 121 feet above the outlet pipe, was registered, and it was decided to keep men on the job all night to ensure that the water was kept ilowing. The road above picnic flat is at present blocked to vehicular traffic, and the approach to the dam is exceedingly muddy as the result oi slips and rain. Violet, a grade Jersey cow owned by Mr. K. A. Candy, of Ngarua, lias created a Dominion record. The directors of the New Zealand Co-operudvc Herd Testing Association, in their annual report, record that Violet produced 909 lb. fat in 337 days, which constitutes a Dominion record under group herd testing. The milk was weighed night and morning and samples were taken daily and tested separately. At the end of tho season the cow’s production, based on the daily test, amounted to 9071 b., or just 21b. less than tho total disclosed by the ordinary herd testing methods. “These figures,” says Mr. Dynes Fulton, chairman of directors, “speak for themselves.”
