Obituary
MR. W. C. POWELL There passed away on Tuesday last at the residence of his daughter, Mrs. A. Hansen, of 112 R.uahinc street, Palmerston North, a well-known identity in the person of Mr. William Charles Powell. With his death a period of residence in the Dominion extending over 07 years wa.s brought to a close. The late Mr. Powell, who was born at Bristol S 3 years ago, came to New Zealand in the sailing ship Lissic Southward in JS6S, landiug at Port Chalmers. He married eight years later and continued to reside in Dunedin, being engaged in tho carrying business. Later Mr. and Mrs. Powcl! and the'nr family removed to Wellington, where they remained for six years before going still further afield to Auckland, where close on three decades were spent prior to their coming to Palmerston North, and they had lived in this centre for the past nine years. A long life partnership was broken just a fortnight ago, when Airs. Powell died in her Slst. year. Air. Powell had not- enjoyed good health for some years, and for the past sever, months lie had been confined to his bed. There is a family of one son and four daughters left to mourn their loss, these being Air. C. A. Powell, of Birkenhead, Auckland, and Alcsdamcs E. R. Watson and W. Watson, both of Wcstmere estate, Auckland, and Alcsdamcs P. Smith and A. Hansen, both of Palmerston North. The funeral took place yesterday afternoon, representatives of the friendly societies being in attendance, tho deceased having been ono of the oldest members of a Dunedin lodge.
