Britain's Pawned Shirt.
Mr. Stanley Baldwin, in one of his recent election speeches said: —“Tho silliest remark ever made, was, * What is the uso of-saving? Wc found the money in wartime. Why not now?’ The answer is that during tho war wc found alt there was to be found. We borrowed to such an extent that wo have mortgage*! our assets for generations. In other words, wc pawned our shirt and wc have not another shirt to pawn.”' Mr Baldwin added that wo poured out money iu loans to our Allies. “Wc have not been repaid very much of that. Wc have had nothing repaid by Russia but wo paid our debts.”
