Hawke's Bay 317 Against Souh Auckland

M. O’BRIEN 123 NOT OUT. Per Press Association. HAMILTON, Jan. 2. Hawke’s Bay made a good start in tho Hawke Cup challenge match against South Auckland, which was commenced yesterday. Tho visitors compiled 317 in the first innings, after batting attractively for the greater part of the day. A feature of the innings was the brilliant display by M. O’Brien, who scored 123 not out, after being at the wickets for three hours. The partnership between O’Brien and T. Bcaney, who was caught on the boundary after making 07, yielded 109 runs. F. Finiayson scored 31 and T. Cavanagh 22. The best bowling for South Auckland was registered by Barnett, who took two wickets for 2(5 runs. Lissctto took two for 27, and Winger three for 63. South Auckland, at the drawing of stumps, had made 85 runs for tho loss of two wickets. S. E. Senior scored 33, and N. Winger 36. HAMILTON, Last Night.

In the Hawke Cup match Hawke’s Bay in their second innings made 144. Requiring 395 ho win South Auckland at stumps had lost no wickets for 40.
