LANG-PLANNERS FAIL BADLY IN LOCAL ELECTIONS

More than 2000 candidates contested the elections -yesterday in (id municipalities and shires in the Cumberland county-, comprising tho metropolitan area and tho adjoining districts, lour hundred w-ero Lang-planners and 4(1 were Communists. Tho vote for tho last-named was very small in all cases, and the Lang men failed badly- almost everywhere. In Rcdfcrn, where the Labour majority was in control, the election resulted in the return of six Labour candidates and six Progressives. At Waterloo, where Labour had been in control for the past six years, not a single Lang candidate was returned. Marrickvillc replaced three Labour men with non-partisans, one of those defeated being a member of the State Transport Trust. Petersham replaced the Labourites with Independents. Tho Lang-planners won one seat at Drum* moync. The party-, however, failed to get a seat at Waverley, but retained control at Newtown. Though the municipal election results are incomplete, it is clear that where the contests were run on political partylines the Lang-planners scored in some of the industrial suburbs. Langites Severely Defeated Received Monday, 12.18 a.m. SYDNEY, Jan. 3. The latest summary of the municipal election results show that the Lang, or State Labour, Party was severely defeated. Formerly Labour controlled ten councils, but now has only one or two, in which the contest was chiefly between Federal and State Labour. The latter contested 400 seats and won about 50.
