At the turn Chief Joy and Green Linnet moved up, heading Taurua in the straight while Antique came with a great run which just failed. Jaloux, which was left at the barrier, joined tho leaders across the top and tho order into;, the straight was Great Star, Prince Val, Jaloux and Peter Jackson. Great Star stayed on to win narrowly by a head from Jaloux in an exciting finish.
