CONCLUDED ON SATURDAY BOYS HAVE HAPPY HOLIDAY But for a heavy shower on • Friday evening the Boy Scout jamboree at Feilding, which broke up on Saturday, was favoured with a week of ideal weather, enabling all to spend an enjoyable and profitable holiday. The jamboree assembled on Boxing Day. when some 300 boys went into camp on Mr. H. E. Hockcn’s property, “Grassmere,’* Colyton. The camp brought together boys from a wide district and they made good use of their meeting to compare notes during tho hours devoted to training in scoutcraft. The location of tho camp answered every requirement for tho jamboree, the picturesque surroundings, the bathing facilities provided by the Oroua river, and the broad fields providing the boys with everything the holiday spirit, demanded. With tho serious training wont lots of healthy fun, and to many the experience of camp life came as something new as well as worth while. The daily programme was varied to heighten interest, and to all the pleasures of the jamboree at Feilding were all too short. For New Year’s Eve (ho Scouts marched to Feilding, being met on the outskirts of Ihe town by the Feilding Pipe Band, which played, the inspiring parade of youth in nil its glory through the business area. The boys were thee given their liberty, and they made happy use of the few hours at their dis pcsal. They returned to camp under their chiefs, tired but delighted with their visit to tho town. On Saturday camp was struck, and throughout the day tho visiting boys took their departure by different trains to their respective home towns. Others, who had motor transport, at their disposal, left yesterday. Before finally leaving the Scouts gave voice to their appreciation of the kindness of Mr. and Mrs. ilocken, who had contributed most generously to tho welfare of the boys. To those gentlemen who had gone into camp with the boys to act. as their chiefs tho Scouts were equally enthusiastic in acknowledging their appreciation. It, was a stirring finalo to the largest Boy Scout jamboree yet held in Feilding.
