MOTHER AND CHILD THROWN UNDER TRAIN
BABY EMERGES UNHARMED. / Per Press Association. WHANGAREI, Last Night. While her baby lay between tho railway rails at Mair station and the train passed over it without touching it, Mrs. D. Rice, of Whangarei, was dragged along the line and her thigh was broken. Mrs. Rice, who is 19 years of age and lives in Park avenue, Whangarei, was preparing to alight from tho OpuaWhangarei train at Mair on Saturday evening. She had the baby in one arm and parcels in the other, and she wentout on to the carriage platform. The train gave a sudden jerk and she was thrown out between the train and the station platform. The train, slowing down, dragged her along the line, and sho suffered a comminuted fracture of one thigh. The baby, one year old, was shaken but not injured.
