SHOW AFFAIRS

MEETING OP A. AND P. COMMITTEE. The President, Mr. 'J. Linklater, ALP., presided at the monthly meeting of the general committee of the Alanawatu A. and P. Association yesterday. A welcome was extended Messrs. H. AY. Smart and R. Dalrymple new members of tho committee. The Palmerston North Borough Council advised that the matter of car pajking was under consideration. The New Zealand Ayrshire Cattle Breeders’ Association returned thanks for favourable consideration given to the association’s request for inclusion iu, the Johnnie Walker cup competition aloug with other breeds. The Royal Society notified that the' next annual conference would bo hold in Wellington on June 26. It was decided to writo the Royal Society suggesting an amendment in the Insurance Perpetual Cup competition to include yearling thoroughbreds and point out that tho practice ol altering conditions of a class after the schedule had been printed, was a dangerous oue. The ball committee recommended the holding of tho annual ball on the evening of July 10. < The following members were elected to vacancies on the finance committee: Messrs Jos. Batehclar, M. A. Conway, L. H. Cillinson, M. A. Eliott, T. E. Hodder, James Knight, H. Y. Lethbridge, J. A. Nash, ALP., and D. CoiJis. Messrs. D. Thomas, W. AleKenxic and W. J. Crcucher were elected to the general committee to fill vacancies. The AVintcr Show schedule committee recommended certain alternations in the schedule which were adopted. Air. T. R. Hodder voiced a protest that the soccer match between Flock House and a Palmerston North team, held during the show each year, should be cut out. He thought the sheepowners and a certain section of the. general public were interested in tho match. , , When Mr. M. A. Eliott suggested that people left the stand when tho soccer match, started, Air. Hodder entered a contradiction stating that the stand, was full. Mr. Eliott: Yes, waiting for the big rugby match to start. The sub-committee’s recommendation to bring on a jumping competition prior to the rugby match was adopted, tho secretary pointing out that tho reason the soccer match had not been placed on the schedule was becauso it had not been arranged this year. District members elected to the committee were:— Messrs. O. Nelson (Hawke’s Bay), C. F. Yallance (Masterton), J. Webb (Taihape), R. J. McDonald (Dannevirke), AY. G. Vickers (Levin), ant) H. G. Lewis (Wanganui)., Air. A. Reid (Hastings) was nominated as a life-member of the Association.
