HUNGARIAN FOLK MUSIC
During last night's concert at the Opera House, Mr. Laszlo Schwarz gave a very interesting address on “Hungarian Folk Music in the Making." An accomplished and witty speaker, Mr. Schwartz pointed out that Hungarian folk music was not manufactured holms bolus like Jazz in Tin Can Alley (Xeiv York). Hungarian folk songs havesprung from melodies created by the peasants, and were created in this way because the peasants had no knowledge of artificial means. With no musical education they would get together and create some of the finest songs in the world. There were no Hungarian cradle songs —the. youngsters thrived on love songs. The Hungarian bands are born musicians, and as Air. Schwartz stated it is a “God-given Gift." “The Hungarian maketh merry with tears" aptly describes tbc temperament of their country.
