Dogs

(To the Editor.; , Sir, —A writer in the Manawatu Daily Times, signing himself ‘ ‘ Coiombo Street Anti-Dog .Nuisance” asked some dog-loving stalwart to venture his opinion on the subject of abolishing dogs from the borough. 1 In some respects i agree with him. 1 .think that all dogs should be kept in their proper place, that is at homo, and should bo under proper control when out on the street. But with regard to abolishing them completely from within the borough his suggestion is absolutely ridiculous. Does he think for one minute that the borough council, while collecting a tax of 10s per head from all dogs in the borough will adopt his ingenious scheme. No, certainly not, and for that reason alone his suggestion is ridiculous. He speaks of “disease-breeding, fleacatching, nofsc producing curses of law-abiding citizens.” It is certainly a mouthful, but he must not lose sight lof the fact that there are two classes of dogs —“dogs’ 'and “mongrels” and neither of these are as bad as some humans, who think nothing of expectorating on pavements and in door-ways and doing all they can to spread disease.

In preference to abolishing dogs from tho borough I would say abolish cats as there is no tax on them.—l am, etc., DOG, CAT AND BIRD BREEDER.
