Sun Cables, Received Thursday, 8 p.m, LONDON, May 17,
Dr. Strcscmann’s critical illness is regarded as a serious blow not only to British but to international diplomacy as on the whole it is expected it will bo several months before he resumes office, his illness being serious from kidney disease. Dr. Stresemaun is undoubtedly Germany's leading statesman to-day. Indeed, it is recognised throughout Europe that he is one of the most outstanding figures in European affairs, his knowledge of which is far above that of anyone else in German politics. His friendship with Sir Austen Chamberlain, coupled with his work at Locarno is one of the most striking features of post-war diplomacy. This is only typical of Dr. Stresemaun V relations with Britain throughout. Ce? tainly Britain sees in him a real friend to the British Empire.
